Mother's Day Classroom Crafts

Mother's Day Classroom Crafts

Mother’s Day is around the corner taking place on Sunday 10th March. Get creative in your classroom with Mother’s Day poems and gifts that make the perfect fun activity for your classroom. These mother’s day ideas are simple and easy and make the perfect classroom activity.

Most of the ideas below make use of materials that can be found in the classroom already. Parents will love to receive handmade cards and more from their children that they can keep for years to come.

Circular Painted Paper Flower Card Craft

Make a beautiful flower card using recycled paper that you paint on.

Supplies needed:

  • Scrap paper
  • Watercolour or paints
  • Brush
  • Scissors
  • Old plastic lids or a compass (for drawing circles) — or draw them by hand
  • Pencil
  • One split pin for each flower
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • White cardstock paper (or construction paper) for the card base.

  • How to make:

    1. Paint freely on scrap paper. Have fun exploring colour mixing and trying new brush strokes. This is a lot of fun! Let the paint dry.
    2. Cut circles (of different sizes) from the painted paper. To make circles, use a compass, old plastic lids, or any circular objects you have on hand. Or just draw them by hand — they don’t have to be perfect. For each flower you’ll need about 5 circles of different sizes.
    3. Punch a hole in the centre of each circle. For the larger circles, you may have to crumple the circles a bit to punch the centre.
    4. To form each flower, layer the circles with the biggest on the bottom. Insert a split pin through the circles
    5. After deciding on the placement of the flower, insert the brad pin through the top of the card and fasten it. Draw a stem for your flower and decorate and write the card.

    Tissue Paper Flowers Craft

    Supplies Needed:

  • Tissue paper (crepe paper)
  • Green pipe cleaners (or twist ties)

  • How to make:

    1. Cut a few pieces (about 4-6) of tissue paper about 8 x 10 inches (the exact size doesn’t matter). Put the paper in a pile and fold it like an accordion.
    2. Tie the centre of the folded paper with a green pipe cleaner (or twist tie).
    3. Gently pull each piece of paper towards the top centre of the flower, separating each sheet of paper from the others (forming the petals of the flower).
    4. You could make various paper flowers with different colour tissue paper.

    Floral Handprint and Fingerprint Craft

    Supplies needed:

  • Paint
  • Card
  • Crayons

  • How to make:

    1. Dip pupil’s hand/s in paint and place it on top of a plant pot on a piece of card or paper. The child can draw the pot or you can glue on a previously made pot. Whatever is easier or inspires you. The fingers on the handprint will form the stems of your flowers.
    2. Dip your child’s thumbprints or fingerprints in paint. Switch colours for varied colour blooms. Create Petals and Individual flowers with each thumbprint.
    3. Finish off the card poem or message that your pupils have written.
