United in Kindness

Wednesday 13th November is World Kindness Day 2024. Started by the World Kindness Movement in 1998, the day encourages everyone to be kind to one another, whether on a small scale or a big one.

Here in the UK, the day is run and promoted by Kindness UK, whose website has some fantastic resources to support people who want to get involved, including a special page dedicated to ideas on how schools can take part. These range from charity fundraising, to setting up kindness committees and celebrating your school’s everyday heroes.

At PTS, we always endeavour to treat our customers and each other with kindness, whether that means doing an extra brew round or offering free gifts at the checkout.

Here is a wonderful poem by Dorothy Law Nolte, that we think sums up the importance of being kind:

Children learn what they live
If children live with criticism they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to be shy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with tolerance, they learn to be patient.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with praise, they learnt to appreciate.
If children live with fairness, they learn justice.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with acceptance and friendship, they learn to find love in the world.
