That little change in expression when something clicks is hard to beat. Whether it’s a tricky phonics sound or a maths method they’ve been wrestling with, their pride becomes your pride too.

4. A beautifully completed page

Neat handwriting. Careful colouring. A date and title both underlined.

It may not happen every day, so enjoy it when it does!

5. The pupil who remembers something you taught weeks ago

Especially when you were convinced nobody had been listening.

6. Watching confidence grow

A child who once avoided putting their hand up begins to contribute. Another finally reads aloud. These small steps can mean everything.
