New from PTS; an engaging, creative way to control noise levels in your classroom. Choose your acceptable noise level, and a visual and optional audible message will inform your learners if they are too loud.

Simply decide what noise level is acceptable for your classroom activity (as sometimes different activities require complete silence, and other activities allow some ‘chat’ amongst pupils) and then set the traffic light noise level using the switch. You can set the range to various levels, and only when the noise rises above the acceptable level will the lights activate.

If the noise level rises above your chosen level the lights change from GREEN which indicates acceptable, to AMBER. If the noise levels still rises then the RED light illuminates and an audible siren sounds at the same time. You can choose to use this unit with or without the siren sounding at the same time as the red light illuminating.

Example 1: Quiet or Silent Classroom Work
Your pupils are engaged in quiet independent work, such as individual reading. Using the adjustable noise level, select a low number. Turn off the audible indicator using the switch at the bottom of the traffic light unit. Now, if whispering builds to talking, the lights will change and inform the class the noise level is unacceptable for the current activity, without the audible alarm disrupting the class.

Example 2: Group Discussion Classroom Work
Your class is doing a group-based activity, which requires discussion in small groups. To ensure the noise level does not get out of hand, while allowing for the necessary conversational level, set the adjustable noise level to a higher number. Turn on the audible indicator, and if the volume in the classroom exceeds an acceptable level, the light and the sound alarm will inform your class that the noise level is too high.

Example 3: Entering and Leaving Assembly
Entering and leaving assembly is a difficult time to control noise levels. The Traffic Light Noise Monitor can be set up next to the entrance, with a reasonable noise level selected. If the children are too loud, the red light will activate to inform them.

Example 4: In the Corridors Outside Tests or Exams
Outside noise can be very distracting for children doing tests, and ‘QUIET PLEASE!” signs are not always effective. Set up the Traffic Light Noise Monitor outside the test room, with the audible alarm switched off, to give passing pupils a visual warning about noise levels, without the audible alarm further distracting the pupils inside.
